Computer Room Cooling System

Mission :

To provide a new cooling plant for the existing and future planned data centres on the 6th and 7th floors of the existing office building in downtown Cape Town

Solution:

Two of the final three closed circuit cooling towers were installed initially along with the main cooling water reticulation piping and duty and standby UPS powered variable speed pumping systems to serve the computer room cooling units installed in the first phase.

The system piping and equipment were designed to be expanded over phases 2 and 3 with an ultimate capacity increase of 100% over phase 1. By careful design and planning an additional cooling tower, piping and cooling units were added into the common cooling water system during phases 2 and 3 without any interruption to cooling to the operational data centres.
